Castello di San Marco Calatabiano - Sicily

The Castello San Marco, enjoys an idyllic location just 50 meters above the sea, at Calatabiano, offering beautiful views of nearby Taormina and Mount Etna. The castle, immersed in four hectares of parkland, was built in the late 17th century in Sicilian Baroque style as the country residence of Prince Ignazio Gravina.

The recent transformation of the property in 4 star resort has allowed for 30 rooms and a suite to be created in the grounds of the 17th century castle. Guest rooms, all with private terraces leading out on to the gardens, are furnished in traditional "arte povera" style, using only the highest quality furniture typical of the Sicilian tradition.

In the grounds of the Castle one finds the small Church of St Antonio da Padova, built in 1697. The millstone and workers' dwellings to the south of the property were added in the late 1800's at the same time as the high perimeter wall and gate. The Castle interiors contain numerous traces of the building's aristocratic past with its majestic halls, graceful arches made from the local lava rock, huge fireplaces and impressive chandeliers.

The finest of Sicilian gastronomy is served at the hotel's restaurants, one of which is located outside for al fresco dining.
