Hotel Villa Carlotta 4 stars
Hotel Villa Carlotta Taormina
A historic Sicilian establishment, Hotel Villa Carlotta occupies an enviable position in the beautiful old city of Taormina, overlooking the sea and the slopes of Mount Etna.
The building was built as the residence of a noble family in 1896 and designed to emulate the grandiose architectural style of 15th century Sicily. The interiors of this elegant stone-clad villa reflect the aristocratic origins of the building, in the use of terracotta tiles, wrought iron, painted ceramics and volcanic stone.
Hotel Villa Carlotta has 27 individually appointed rooms and suites, decorated with furniture in highly-prized Sicilian cherry wood. A number of rooms have romantic canopied beds, the drapes of which are made with the finest textiles. Large bay windows open out onto balconies and private terraces with views of the sea and the hotel's fragrant gardens.
A delicious Mediterranean breakfast is served on the panoramic roof top terrace each morning. On summer evenings, the terrace transforms into a romantic restaurant serving only the finest of Sicilian cuisine.
The hotel's swimming pool, located in the garden, is open from late spring until the end of October. In a remote corner of the grounds, amidst the olive groves and palm trees, part of a Roman road can be admired. More ancient remains, in the form of Byzantine catacombs, can be seen in the hotel's bar.
Ideally located for those wishing to explore the historic center of Taormina, Villa Carlotta is just a ten minute walk away from the elegant Corso Umberto and the city's ancient theater. The beaches of Giardini Naxos, the Etna National Park and the cities of Siracusa and Noto all lie within easy driving distance of the hotel.
