Le Case dello Zodiaco Modica - Sicily

Case dello Zodiaco's houses, enchanting period residences in the heart of the historic center of Modica, provide a splendid example of the successful restoration and conservation of Sicily's architectural heritage. Case dello Zodiaco was born as "albergo diffuso": a project which involves the restoration of a group of historic buildings and their transformation into exclusive accommodation for those visitors eager to experience an atmosphere of times past.

Hidden away amidst the alleyways and piazzas of Modica, between the city's belvedere viewing point and curtigli, or courtyards, Case dello Zodiaco's 5 houses conserve the architectural traditions of the Val di Noto to perfection. Behind the typical stone façade, each house contains a pleasing mixture of tradition and modernity. Particular attention has been given to the removal of architectural barriers and the interiors of three of the five houses have been designed so as make them completely accessible to disabled guests.

Case dello Zodiaco's appeal lies in the combination of antique and modern furnishings, of centuries old architecture and contemporary technology. "Casa Ariete", the largest of the five houses, is located in Via Ciceri and sleeps up to 8 people. Each house contains details which make it unique, like the small external space of the "Casa Vergine" and the old bread oven (now used as larder) in the "Casa Gemelli". "Casa Cancro" and "Casa Bilancia" are situated in an 18th century edifice and face on to a pretty internal courtyard which, on warm summer evenings, provides the ideal setting for a romantic dinner, al fresco. Each apartment is equipped with kitchen, living room and a library, in which to find all the classics of Sicilian literature. Case dello Zodiaco's apartments are available for weekly let.
